Hello everyone, now GraphicTutz will explain the tutorial about business card. In this tutorial, I will create a retro style business card in Adobe Photoshop. To create this retro style business card design, you will need the following stuff:

Font:

  • Dancing Script
  • Quicksand
  • Blue Highway

Pattern: Doofy Design Patterns Set

That’s all things you need. Now, this is the final result of Retro Style Business Card that I’ve designed before.

Final Result

Now, it’s time to go to the tutorial. Let’s start:

Tutorial Retro Style Business Card Using Photoshop

First, create a new document in Photoshop. In this tutorial, I will use the European Business Card size so I choose the size of document into 3.5 inches of width and 2.0 inches of height. But, if you want to create the print ready design, you must include bleed guidelines. So, I will add additional size to this bleeds. I will create 2 guidelines for trim line and safety margin. The final size include the bleeds are 3.75x2.25 inch, 0.125 inch for trim line and 0.125 inch for safety margin. Then I use 300 pixels/inch and CMYK colors.

Then, you can create new guidelines to the document. Click View > New Guide and choose the horizontal or vertical guideline, then fill the position of guideline for the document to 0,125 inch for each guideline. In this tutorial, I use 8 guidelines that have position like the following detail:
Vertical: 0.125, 0.25, 3.5, 3.625
Horizontal: 0.125, 0.25, 2.0, 2.125

Create a new layer, then pick the retro color for the background of business card. In this tutorial, I choose #eae59c for the color background. Press Alt+Backspace to apply the color to the layer.
Now, it’s time to create the logo. Choose custom shape tool, and then click the seal from panel option.

Before you create the logo from the shape, you should choose the color. You can choose the dark color for this, but in this tutorial I choose #222222. The result will be like this.

Now duplicate the shape, hit Ctrl + J. Then chage the position just a little bit, and the result will look like this:

Create a text layer by click the text tool. Use the Dancing Script font, then put the text to the center of the shape layer.
After that, choose ellipse tool and create ellipse shape. We will warp this shape, so click Edit > Transform > Warp. Change the ellipse so will be like this image:

Now we have the logo. Next step, we will create the dotted line.

Create a new layer, then drag the layer below the logo. Click brush tool and set the size to 5px and Hard round. Click Window > Brush and then set the spacing into 200%.

Brush horizontally and you must have the result like this:

Duplicate the dotted line layer, and move it down. Create new layer, and then with text tool, choose Quicksand font and write look like this:

Create new layer, then please make 2 horizontal lines. Make a new text layer, and use the Blue Highway font for the name of business card. You can give 4 or 5 space to have this result.

Duplicate the text layer, and then move some pixel to left. Double click to the layer, and then give pattern overlay effect. You can choose the pattern from the pattern you’ve downloaded before. So, the result will like this:

Now, I will create a banner for phone number. Choose custom shape tool and then click the banner1.

Add the phone number by create new text layer and move the text to the banner. This is the result:

Duplicate the dotted line layer, then move to the bottom of the document. I will create optional contact info to the business card. I will add email address, website address, and twitter username. The result will be like this:

Conclusion: Now, you can create a retro style business card using Adobe Photoshop. You can add some optional effect to the text or another element of the document.
